Comparable-looking percentages may measure different things. Read the denominator and the sample definition alongside the displayed value.

What to observe

Identify what the rate counts and which opportunities form its denominator. A success rate and a share of opportunities answer different questions. The percentage symbol does not make them interchangeable. Use the data provider’s definition when a label is unfamiliar.

How to read the sequence

Check which games or possessions the numerator and denominator cover. Small samples can move substantially after a few events, so accompanying counts help explain uncertainty. Do not infer an unmeasured player quality from a rate alone.

Limits and checks

Before comparing pages, align filters, competition type and update range. A partial selection and a longer interval describe different samples. Establishing comparable coverage is more informative than immediately ranking whichever percentage looks higher.
